This is my interpretation of the word "texture" for my photography scavenger hunt. I like how the candy apples in the front have loads of toppings and the ones in the back are bare. It gives a good contrast in texture.

I agree with your insight to the bare texture in the back. I also think there is like a three level effect with the background of the sidewalk and street, the bare candy apples, and the M&M ones. It's a bit out of focus, but I feel like it works FOR the photo rather than AGAINST it. Great picture. It makes me want one!
